A 22-YEAR-OLD man from Gokwe has been arrested for allegedly strangling a 13-year-old boy who was walking to a grinding mill with his siblings.

Midlands Provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, said the incident occurred on Wednesday around 5 pm along a footpath in Muvi Village, Gokwe South.

“The now deceased Brian Wurawa, was accompanied by his four younger siblings, who were carrying two sacks of maize. They encountered the suspect, Arnold Muchenjekwa, who asked to assist Brian with carrying one of the sacks,” he said.

After a short distance, Insp Mahoko said Muchenjekwa stopped and put down the sack, and when Brian asked for his sack back, Muchenjekwa refused.

“The suspect allegedly took advantage of the situation and strangled Brian to death. The siblings, who had continued walking ahead, witnessed the incident from a distance and ran to the grinding mill to alert other villagers,” he said.

Insp Mahoko said the villagers gathered and apprehended Muchenjekwa.

“A report was made to the police and the scene was attended. Muchenjekwa is currently assisting with the investigation.” he said.
