THE remains of a Gokwe man have been lying unclaimed at Kwekwe General Hospital Mortuary for approximately four years in a case of neglected deceased relatives.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has since issued an urgent appeal to the public to help identify and collect the body of the man, identified as Munyaradzi M, from Gokwe South.
According to a statement released on Sunday by National Police Spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi, Munyaradzi’s body has been at the facility since roughly late 2022.
The police revealed that Munyaradzi is part of a group of five identified individuals whose remains have been abandoned at the mortuary for various periods ranging from a few months to over two years.
Other individuals listed in the statement include Menfree Takawira and Benjamin Ncube, whose remains have both been at the mortuary for approximately two years.
The statement further lists Baby Talent from Wishlee Farm, whose remains have been there for approximately one year, and Blessing Nyama of Alarm 2 Mine, whose remains were admitted on 8 August 2026.
Commissioner Nyathi appealed to members of the public whose next of kin’s remains are being held at the hospital to come forward.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police is appealing to members of the public whose next of kin’s remains are being held at Kwekwe General Hospital Mortuary to come forward for identification, completion of the necessary documentation and collection for dignified burial,” Commissioner Nyathi said.
The police also noted that there are an additional nine unidentified bodies at the facility, brought in between April and September 2026.
Members of the public with information that may assist in identifying the bodies are urged to contact Kwekwe General Hospital Mortuary, their nearest police station, or the National Complaints Desk.
