Gokwe South Rural District Council is conducting a public auction of stray livestock which were impounded and unclaimed, the RDC chief executive officer, Silas Velani has said.He said the RDC will put under the hammer 54 head of cattle, 16 donkeys and 34 goats on 15 August.

The auction will be held at Nhongo Sale Pen along the Nembudziya-Jahana road, just 10 km from Gokwe Town.

Velani said: “We are going to conduct a public auction of stray livestock and the auction is open to everyone. It will be strictly on cash basis. The animals to be auctioned were lost for more than three months and were held in council custody. The owners of the beasts failed to claim them during the said time”.

The Gokwe South RDC CEO said owners of the animals could still claim them on or before the auction day.

He said: “Those who may want to claim the livestock as theirs will have to produce proof to the police in Gokwe which will be working in liaison with the Department of Veterinary Services. They can only be allowed to lay claim on the animals after producing proof”.

Velani said individuals who will claim their livestock after the auction will have to deal with the state.

He said no previous owner of the beasts would be allowed to engage people who buy the livestock from the auction sales through normal channels.

Velani said: “We will use the money raised from the auction to sponsor various developmental projects that we are undertaking in the district. Some of these projects include the construction of schools, roads upgrading and borehole drilling in various parts of the district.

The council will also auction old vehicles at the council workshop. Some of the vehicles to be sold include a Nissan double cab 2,7D, Toyota Cressida and Leyland Comet 1111.
