A GOKWE burgler got more than what he bargained for when he got stuck in a shop after trying to steal an electric motor from a grinding mill. The bizarre incident which has left tongues wagging in Gokwe occurred last Friday at around 6AM when Pega Tambatubiti, 39, of Marimirofa Village under Chief Nemangwe, was found rooted on the spot still clutching the engine.

Chief Nemangwe confirmed the incident.

He said he was handling a case in which Tambatubiti got stuck in a shop belonging to a local businessman, Thomas Ndlovu.

“I can confirm that I handled a case in which one of my subjects got stuck in a shop while trying to steal an engine. The suspect was brought to me after villagers effected a citizen’s arrest. The owner of the grinding mill confessed that he consulted a witchdoctor to cast spell and protect his possessions using traditional means and according to him the spell roots a person to the spot,” he said.

Chief Nemangwe said Tambatubiti broke into the shop in the wee hours of Friday before dismantling the grinding mill and retrieving an electric motor.

“However, he got the shock of his life when he discovered that the electric motor was stuck in his hands and he could not even move his feet,” he said.

The traditional leader said the Tambatubiti was discovered by Ndlovu in the morning rooted on the spot.
He said Tambatubiti was force- marched to the chief’s homestead where he was hauled before the traditional court.

“I subsequently fined him two beasts for the crime,” said Chief Nemangwe.
