BORROWDALE Park will have another high-profile race, when seasoned campaigners Coachella and Love to Bluff, square off in the Grade Three Swift Gold Cup Sprint, on Saturday.
Mashonaland Turf Club have lured a sponsor for the race.
Borrowdale Park’s biggest, and best sprint, will be run over 1200m with previous winners Coachella, and recent record-breaker, Captain of Tortuga, also in the line-up. Finding the winner will not be easy, which usually guarantees a great race.
Bridget Stidolph’s stable have brought in three runners for the race, with Coachella drawn third, behind stablemate Captain of Tortuga, who is drawn first.
Coachella has 10 wins and the top sprinter, who won this race in 2017, is carrying 61 kg, and was placed third in 2018 and 2019, carrying 63 kg.
Unplaced last year, the horse has since won twice over 1100m, beating What a Dandy (receiving 10kg) and Armstrong (receiving 7kg).
Captain of Torguta is an interesting runner who won four races, in Gauteng and KZN, over 1400m and 1600m.
He won his only start at Borrowdale on November 6.
The Stidolph stable also have Love to Bluff, who is regarded as an outsider, when facing the big boys.
Vanessa Birketoft stable also come in with Mr Greenlight, Armstrong and Fareeq. Debra Swanson has What a Dandy, who has seen it all, in these races. Gokhan Terzi complete the entries, with Edward the Seventh, who is still to get a partner.
He won a 1450m MR 85 Handicap on October 24, carrying 60,5kg, and finished 2.5 lengths off Holy Land, on November 21.
