TWO gun-totting men raided the home of a gold dealer in Zvishavane’s Mandava suburb, tied a guard with some pieces of wire before getting away with cash and gold with a combined value of more than $12 000. Midlands police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the incident yesterday.
He Insp Mahoko said no arrests have been made in connection with the incident, which occurred on Saturday night.
He said when the suspects arrived at the home they asked for the whereabouts of the gold dealer, Mr Simon Chivere from his guard, Mr Taurai Chamauya.
The guard told them that his boss was not around.
“Circumstances are that two suspects arrived at the complainant, Mr Simon Chivere’s house driving a Blue unregistered VW Golf car and approached a security guard who was manning the premises,” said Insp Mahoko.
“When the gunmen heard that Mr Chivere was not around, they force-marched the guard, Mr Taurai Chamauya to the main house and demanded safe keys from him. They tied Mr Chamauya with some pieces of wire and then proceeded to unlock the safe and got away with $1 217 cash and refined gold worth $11 737.”
The guard managed to untie himself after some minutes and raised alarm.
Police are appealing to members of the public in their bid to track down the suspects.
