Gold ore robbers in court

A suspected armed robber today appeared in court on allegations of teaming up with ten members of his gang to steal two tonnes of gold ore and two electricity generators at Jacko 28 Mine located in Domboshava.

Kudakwashe Njenge was not asked to plead to the charges when he appeared before Harare magistrate Mr Denis Mangosi, who remanded him in custody to November 5.

Mr Anesu Chirenje, appearing for the State, alleges that Njenge teamed up with Simbarashe Makoni and other gang members, who are on the run, and went to Jacko 28 Mine where they threatened to kill Manfold Tsuro and Paddington Chaitezvi with a pistol, catapult, axes, iron bars and machetes. They allegedly forcefully took two electrical generators and forced the complainants to load two tonnes of milled gold ore onto a truck (AEM 6470).

Njenge and his gang allegedly demanded all valuables from Chaitezvi who surrendered 24 grammes of gold and a phone.

A total of $232 303.20 was stolen.
