GOLDEN Eagles have made huge strides in their revival journey and can dream again in the Northern Region Soccer League.
Now on 40 points after beating Black Rhinos 1-0 at the Heart Stadium last weekend, Eagles are only seven points behind leaders N’ombeyawora after 21 games. Their consistent display over the last seven games has totally transformed them from a team dropping towards relegation to serious title contenders.
After notching five wins in each of their last five games, scoring nine and conceding just once, Golden Eagles know they stand a good chance of winning promotion if they can sustain the momentum.
Coach Arthur Gorejena, who replaced Philip Sithole when the team was 12 points off the pace, said Golden Eagles’ secret lies in upholding their own values.
“Our approach to the game is rooted in our core values that we believe are crucial for success:
“We believe in collective effort as we have come to recognise that individual brilliance is amplified when players, technical team, and management unite towards a common goal.
“That has come to define us and it’s driving us up,” said Gorejena.
“The commitment in the team is out of this world.
“As the technical team, we have given our players the freedom to make decisions and take ownership. “This is how they have acquired the confidence with which they are playing.
“You can see the players themselves are a united front. They openly communicate and trust each other well. This is the key ingredient to building the very foundation from which we can develop success from.
“I believe our values transcend the field, becoming a way of life.”
Gorejena acknowledges that competition at the top is stiff with N’ombeyawora and Agama tied on 47 points while just behind Golden Eagles is Black Rhinos, a side that remains a dark horse in this title race despite losing steam in their past four games.
Gorejena also gave his view on promotion chances. “As we sit third on the log, we’re focused on building our momentum and continuing to apply our principles to drive success.
