Golf club killer remanded in custody

A 22-YEAR-OLD man from Bulilima district in Matabeleland South province who fatally struck his 42-year-old neighbour with a golf club,has appeared in court facing murder charges.

Nkanyiso Sibanda of Mabatha Village in Ndolwane area was not asked to plead when he appeared before Plumtree magistrate, Mr Taurai Manwere.

He was remanded in custody to December 11.

Mr Manwere advised Nkanyiso to apply for bail at the High Court.

Prosecuting, Mrs Rose Sibanda said on 24 November, Nkanyiso who was coming from a beer drink, met his neighbour Mr Thulani Nleya at around 8PM and allegedly attacked him.

“On 24 November Nkanyiso spent the day drinking beer at a bottle store at Ndolwane Business Centre. He later became violent and threatened to beat up other patrons as well as kill the bar lady,” she said.

He later left the bottle store and proceeded to his girlfriend’s homestead.

Mrs Sibanda said on his way out of the bottle store, he took a golf club. She said Nkanyiso later met Mr Nleya and allegedly struck him once with the golf club and he collapsed and died on the spot.

The matter was reported to the police leading to Nkanyiso’s arrest.
