Zimbabwe have qualified for the 2027 Rugby World Cup in Australia.
This comes after they successfully defended their Rugby Africa Cup title courtesy of a 30-28 win over Nambia at the Mandela National Stadium in Uganda this afternoon.
Zimbabwe got on the scoreboard courtesy of tries by Kudzi Mashwi, Godfrey Muzanargwo and second centre Brandon Mudzekenyedzi, while flyhalf Ian Prior added three penalties and three conversions.
Namibia hit back with tries from skipper Prince Gasoseb, Jay-Cee Nel and replacement Tiaan Swanepool while fullback added two penalties and two conversions.
With the fate of next year’s Rugby Africa Cup still up in the air, this year’s tournament was doubling as the 2027 Rugby World Cup qualifiers.
The winner, Zimbabwe, automatically qualifiers for the global rugby extravanganza while Namibia, as runners up, will have to navigate their way through a Africa/Asia playoff.
The winner of that match will then proceed to the Rechechage tournament that is slated for November 8 to 18 in the United Arab Emirates.
