Good Samaritan fatally stabbed

A Chitungwiza man who fatally stabbed a Good Samaritan who was restraining him from assaulting his young brother during a dispute yesterday appeared in court facing murder charges. Albert Fombe of St Mary’s was not formally charged when he appeared before Chitungwiza magistrate Mr Lazarus Murendo.

He was remanded in custody to February 24 and was asked to apply for bail at the High Court. According to the indictment papers, Fombe had a misunderstanding with the now deceased (name not supplied)’s young brother last Wednesday at around 10pm.

It is alleged that during the scuffle the deceased tried to restrain Fombe from assaulting his young brother.

The court heard that this angered Fombe who, in a fit of rage, charged at the deceased armed with a kitchen knife. He allegedly stabbed him once on the right side of the chest and he died on the spot.

Mr Tendai Mukariri appeared for the State.
