A MAZOWE man is on the run after mistakenly killing a man who was trying to stop him from assaulting someone he had a misunderstanding with at a bar on Friday.

According to reports, Elson Chitanda (27), of Oldbury Farm, was drinking beer when a misunderstanding broke out between him and Limukhane Muzanenhamo.

A witness said Chitanda picked up a stone, intending to hit Muzanenhamo, but missed.

The stone struck William Purukeya (27), who had been trying to restrain him from attacking Muzanenhamo.

Purukeya fell to the ground, bleeding profusely.

He was rushed to Royal Clinic in Mount Pleasant Heights, where he was treated before being referred to Parirenyatwa Hospital.

However, reports say he was taken home, with plans to bring him back to the hospital the following day.

On Saturday, at around 9am, Purukeya was found dead in his bedroom.

Chitanda fled after the incident and has not yet been arrested.

Purukeya’s body was taken to Parirenyatwa Hospital mortuary pending a post-mortem examination.
