GOODBYE ARCHBISHOP, YOU RAN A GOOD RACE

THE Government has said the country lost a big part of its religious soul when Archbishop Loveless Manhango, the founder of Bethsaida Apostolic Church, died.

Archbishop Manhango was laid to rest at Chiwiriri Shrine in Chikomba District.

He died on November 5 at the age of 104.

He had been leading his church since 1952.

The burial ceremony was attended by thousands of people, including senior Government officials, and leaders of various churches.

Youth Empowerment, Development and Vocational Training Minister, Tino Machakaire, said:

“The last time I was here, the Archbishop called me saying he wanted to pray for me, his prayers have made me who I am today and I am grateful for that.

“He was a peaceful person and my prayer is for the elders to continue supporting the new leader of the church.

“We are fighting drug and substance abuse and churches have contributed a lot in that fight.”

Through his Ministry, Minister Machakaire donated tonnes of cement to help build a BAC church in Chiwiriri.

Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Mashonaland East, Dr Apolonnia Munzverengwi, said:

“He is someone who supported Government programmes. I used to come here for prayers. He was a prayerful leader, a humble person who loved everyone.”

Archbishop Manhango’s son, Bishop Nyasha Manhango, said his wish was for the government to declare his father’s grave a national shrine.

He said his father was a loving man who feared and respected God.
