GOODBYE DENZEL, WE ARE ALL HEARTBROKEN

ONE of the students, who died while on his way to collect his O-Level results, changed the kombi which his father had paid for his trip back to his school, H-Metro has established.

Denzel Jenami decided to board a different kombi after seeing some of his friends in that kombi.

Denzel, who was a promising footballer, and his friend and schoolmate Wayne, died on Wednesday last week when the kombi they were travelling in lost control and overturned.

They were part of a group that was on its way to Mt St Mary’s High School in Hwedza.

It has now been established that Denzel attained 2As, 6Bs, and 2 Cs and was laid to rest in Zvimba on Saturday.

Wayne was laid to rest at Zororo Memorial Park.

Their former schoolmates attended the two burial ceremonies.

A close relative said Denzel’s send-off was very emotional.

“The school’s head came to the funeral in the company of other school children.

“Kombi yakamuuraya handiyo yaanga akwidzwa nababa vake. Iye akazochinja kombi baba vake vaenda. “Akadaidzwa nemafriends ake.

“It was actually three kombis which went with students.

“Baba vake vakatosiya vamukwidza kombi, vatobhadhara, so he later saw his friends who were using a different kombi.

“Saka vakamusheedza akachinjana nasomeone akaenda mukombi yakazoita tsaona.

“His head had a deep cut,” said the relative.

Mourners at the funeral

Added the relative:

“Some students came from his school and his classmates also came to say goodbye.

“The nurses who attended to him before he died also came.

“He died upon admission at the hospital. The school is located close to the hospital and the injured are still at the hospital.”

Denzel was hailed as well-behaved student.

“The students hailed him as a leader.

“Towards his exams, he led other students to a prayer mountain at Mutemwa.

“They asked for a kombi and were given transport by the head.

“At church, he was a server, he would assist with God’s work.

“He was regarded as a good and humble young man in Mabvuku.

“Zvisiri zvekuti afa anaka, he was a good young man.”

During the funeral, it was revealed that Denzel was a promising footballer.

“He loved his soccer, airigona bhora zvisingaite. His boots and his jersey were also brought to the funeral ceremony.

“It was painful to see that. He was targeting football, aitorigona stereki zvekuti chikoro aitozivikanwa.

“He was the first born in a family of three.

“It is painful.”

Earlier reports had claimed several students died in the accident.

However, H-Metro established yesterday that only two students were confirmed dead while others suffered injuries.

The tragedy has been topical among our readers.
