HARARE Mayor Jacob Mafume says Council workers are working day and night to clear all the waste dumpsites found across the city.
Mafume said they have been having problems with their machines and this has resulted in the accumulation of piles of garbage.
“We know it is raining and diseases are spreading,” said Mafume.
“We are working on those issues, the only problem we had is that our Strip Truck was out of service hence the accumulating of waste.
“We started clearing yesterday and, as of now, our goal is to remove all the waste within a few days.
“To deal with the growing waste problem, the city council sent out night workers that are supposed to work day and night.
He added:
“Residents should call to check why bins are not being collected on the prescribed dates.
“Waste dumpsites have become the norm, particularly in high-density suburbs, we sincerely appreciate those who brought the issue to us and we plan on rectifying it.”
