Goods train derails in Norton

A goods train transporting fertiliser and wheat from Dabuka to Harare derailed near Norton on Monday afternoon, destroying part of the consignment.National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) public relations manager Mr Fanuel Masikati confirmed the incident in an interview yesterday, saying investigations to ascertain its cause were still underway.

“I can confirm that a goods train derailed between Norton and Somerby around 3pm on Monday,” he said. “There were no injuries to any persons except that the railway line was damaged and investigations are still underway to establish the cause of the accident.”

Mr Masikati said the goods train had 10 wagons when the accident occurred.

He said they expected to have fixed the railway line by last night.
