ZIMBABWE defender Tatenda Gora has expressed his delight after securing his second consecutive Botswana Premier League title with Gaborone United, describing the achievement as overwhelming.
The 27-year-old centre-back was instrumental as the Reds sealed the 2025/26 championship with weeks to spare.
Gaborone United had an unassailable 11-point lead at the top of the standings.
Gora, who has been a mainstay at the heart of United’s defence, missing just a single game this season, delivered a series of commanding performances that have seen him dubbed the “Roadblock” by admiring fans in Botswana.
“I’m overwhelmed with gratitude as I reflect on this incredible journey,” said Gora.
“A lot of people from my family, teammates, friends and everyone close to me have been supporting. Despite setbacks and possible injuries, God’s guidance kept me going.”
The former GreenFuel defender joined Gaborone United on a six-month stint in January 2024 before earning a long-term contract after impressing the club’s technical team.
Gora is now regarded as one of the most reliable defenders in that country.
This season’s triumph adds to Gora’s growing collection of silverware, which includes the 2024/25 league title and the prestigious Defender of the Year accolade.
“I feel very ecstatic about winning the league title as it is something I really put in good work for since day one of the season,” Gora said. “Being the best defender was a testament to dedication, hard work, commitment, consistency and determination.
“Our championship win was a team effort, built on unity, perseverance, and faith,” Gora said. “To any-one chasing their dreams, keep believing. Divine guidance can take you further than you ever imagined.”
The triumph also secures Gaborone United’s place in next season’s CAF Champions League, offering Gora another opportunity to test himself against the continent’s elite after the club’s narrow 2-1 aggregate loss to Tanzanian giants Simba SC in this season’s preliminary round.
Gora described that continental experience as a major learning curve despite the disappointment of elimination.
“We were very disappointed not to progress to the next stage of the competition because everything was in our hands,” he reflected.
“In terms of the stats, I am sure we dominated Simba, but only failed to find the back of the net. It was very disappointing but a learning curve.”
While his club career continues to soar, the Warriors’ call-up he desperately craves has remained elusive.
“It is every player’s dream to wear the national team colours,” he admitted.
“That won’t take away my focus on helping my team achieve more. I am aiming to have more clean sheets and goals next season.”
