A 24-YEAR-OLD Goromonzi man was crushed to death by a train near Melfort, in Mashonaland East Province, on Sunday morning.
Anesu Kurima of Eureka Farm in Melfort, Goromonzi district, died after both his legs were crushed by a train.
Police spokesperson for Mashonaland East, Inspector Simon Chazovachiyi, confirmed the accident.
“It is reported that on October 5, 2025 in the morning, a fatal rail accident occurred at the 36 km peg along the Harare-Mutare railway line, where one person was killed,” he said.
“Reports are that Mr George Moyo was operating a locomotive train along the Harare-Mutare railway line, and on approaching the 36 km peg, he saw a person lying across the railway line with earphones in his ears and both his legs were crushed by the train.
“Moyo managed to stop the train. The now deceased sustained fractured legs, and he died upon admission at Parirenyatwa Hospital.”
He said a report was made to ZRP Goromonzi, and officers, together with National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) officials, attended the scene.
“The body of the deceased was conveyed to Parirenyatwa Hospital mortuary for postmortem. Investigations are in progress.”
