ZIMBABWE Warriors’ head coach Ian “Dibango” Gorowa wants thorough preparations for his side ahead of the African Nations Championship that will be held in South Africa early next year. The Chan tournament, to be hosted in three South African cities, Cape Town, Polokwane and Bloemfontein between 11 January and 1 February next year, is the third edition of an event that was first played in 2009.
Speaking during halftime of the Battle of the Titans between Highlanders and Dynamos on Sunday afternoon, Gorowa said they were organising friendly matches as part of the Warriors’ preparations.
“I am not really concerned about whom we will play in our friendlies. What is important is for us to have proper preparations,” said Gorowa.
The Zimbabwe Warriors are set to play Mozambique in an international friendly set for 8 December possibly at Barbourfields Stadium after Gorowa condemned the artificial turf at Rufaro Stadium and asked for all the future national team matches to be played in Bulawayo as part of efforts to spreading nation team games to all corners of the country.
“Once the friendlies which we want are confirmed we will then announce our squad,” said Gorowa.
According to the draw that was held at the Confederation of African Football (Caf) headquarters in Cairo, Egypt mid last month, the Warriors, who were seeded together with Ghana, Democratic Republic of Congo and hosts South Africa, were drawn in Group B together with Uganda, Morocco and 2013 Nations Cup finalists Burkina Faso.
Group B teams will play their matches at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in nearby Polokwane and the Warriors are likely to attract full houses for their games.
