THE Goshawks Under-19 rugby side is hoping for a balanced match when they take on touring English Barbarians side at Harare Sports Club this evening.
Coached by Nsikelelo “Sykes” Sibanda and Jeff Madhake and managed by Blessing “Bhuru” Chiutare, the side will be largely made up of players that are on trial for the Zimbabwe Under-19 Junior Africa Cup side.
According to Chiutare, this game will give them a picture of what they have to look for when the schools season starts in four weeks time with the Dairiboard Schools Rugby Festival at Prince Edward.
“Tomorrow’s (today’s) game will give us an insight into most of the players we have not been able to see or have not played for our side so, for us, this really is more of a second-string side,” said Chitaure.
“But we are looking forward to a rather balanced game and this game will also give us an idea of what we have to look for when we go on the market. The schools season is starting soon so when it starts we know specifically which areas we have to look at. For instance we only have three locks and that is not enough for us.”
Independent Schools manager Alex Laybourne believes the rest they got yesterday was good enough for his boys.
“We have played two different styles of rugby against the two teams we have played so far and we have had a look at all our players now so we are looking forward to another great two games to come,” said Laybourne.
