FAST-rising gospel artiste Abednico Sikhosana says he is now focusing on collaborations and releasing singles to grow his musical profile.
The musician is in the process of shooting a video for his latest single, Inkinga Yimali that is performing well on local radio stations. The song laments the evil things that people do for money.
He is also working on a collaboration with poet Obert Dube on a song titled Umhlaba that is due for release next year.
“I’ve been approached by a number of artistes for collaborations and this shows that my career is doing well. Gospel lovers should look out for my upcoming collaboration with Obert Dube as it’ll be nothing short of amazing,” he said.
Sikhosana said the reception his music has been getting has pushed him to redouble his effort to compose more music.
A truck driver outside music, Sikhosana said he remains inspired by what he sees daily in life and hopes to sing songs that will find resonance with gospel lovers.
“My messages are inspired by Bible verses but also dwell on what I see on a daily basis. I always aim to deliver music that’ll speak to people’s lives and help them through their situations.”
The traditional gospel musician’s first album, Umkhuleko was released last year with the artiste now hard at work on his next project.
Traditional gospel, a genre that tends to be a bit laid back with more emphasis on the message than instruments was popularised by musicians like the late Brian Sibalo, the late Rivonia Khumalo, and South Africa-based Ernest Masongela. — @themkhust.
