Outstanding gospel musicians will be rewarded at the Permican Awards to be held at City Sports Centre on September 19, courtesy of Christ Television.
The gospel award ceremony, which is known as Prophets Emmanuel and Ruth Makandiwa Invitational Concert Awards Night is a show that was created in honour of Zimbabwean gospel musicians who evangelise through music.
The function will see musicians who would have, with excellence, preached the word of God through music receiving awards. The awards will be held at a time Christ Television will be celebrating its two years of spreading the gospel to the nations since September 2014.
“The PERMICANS are a tool that we are using to encourage our musicians to not only take the gospel to the nations through music, but to do so with excellence. As we celebrate our growth as a television station, we honour these great people who help us connect with the Lord and saviour and even win souls through music,” said Pastor Ted Lazaro the director for Christ TV.
Pastor Ted Lazaro said while Christ TV aims to market Jesus to the world, gospel musicians in Zimbabwe have been driving the same message.
The awards started in 2014 with over 40 artistes participating at the event.
“We have 17 categories of awards we are giving away to artistes who will be voted the best. There will be an audit team. It is work in progress but it’s looking good,” said Pastor Ted.
He also said that this is the first show that awards gospel musicians only, and they are delighted to do so.
He said fans should expect new things this year as the show will be greater.
Gospel musicians like Minister Mahendere, Doc Tawanda, Pastor G and Mudiwa will perform on that day and more prominent artistes are expected to take part.
To qualify for the awards, Zimbabwean artistes or gospel musicians are supposed to submit their entries and these are officially open for Zimbabwean gospel musicians in Zimbabwe and the Diaspora.
The competition includes several awards and each artiste may enroll in one or more categories of their choice. Pastor Ted said the song or songs participating in the competition must have been released between January 1, 2014 and June 1, 2015, must be of high quality, not damaged and readable on any drive.
Submission deadline is August 17, 2015 and nominees will be announced on September 3.
Awards will be presented to winners who will be voted the best on September 19, while voting will be done through an SMS platform. The categories are Song of the Year, Video of the Year, Album of the Year, Best Group or Duo, Best Sound Engineer, Best Producer, Best Urban Contemporary, Best Female Artist, Best Male Artist, Best New Comer, Best Traditional, Best Song Writer, Best Collaboration, Legendary Award, Gospel Radio Show of the Year, Most Viewed Song of the Year and Video Director of the Year.
