MINISTER of Skills Development and Audit, Dr Jenfan Muswere says Government is accelerating the revamping and modernisation of rural health facilities to ensure patients receive quality care.
Dr Muswere, who is also Makoni West Member of House of Assembly, said this while commissioning a new waiting mothers’ shelter at Toriro Clinic where a solarised borehole and internet connectivity were recently installed.
“Government is on an accelerated drive to revamp and modernise all rural health facilities so that they provide quality service to the people, and here in Makoni West we have embraced that drive with several projects happening at our clinics,” said Dr Muswere, adding that the mothers’ shelter was part of broader upgrades at Toriro Clinic, which now has grid and solar power, a solar borehole, and computers for electronic record keeping.
“This is the Smart Health Strategy being championed by the Government so that medical records are safely kept. For us to achieve Vision 2030 we must have standard health facilities that are well functional,” he said.
Dr Muswere said 10 mothers’ shelters had been constructed in the constituency so far, with three new clinics currently under construction.
Minister of State for Manicaland Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Advocate Misheck Mugadza commended his counterpart for leading the construction and upgrading of health facilities in the constituency, saying the work aligned with President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s mantra of leaving no one and no place behind.
“We want a healthy and fit populace to work and achieve developmental goals of Vision 2030. We also applaud the community for chipping in with locally available materials for this construction to happen and this is what President Emmerson Mnangagwa is preaching,” said Minister Mugadza.
ZANU PF Manicaland provincial chairman, Cde Tawanda Mukodza and Chief Makoni hailed Dr Muswere for the development projects in Makoni West, describing the constituency as one of the leading in terms of service delivery.
The commissioning ceremony was also attended by ZANU PF provincial Women’s League chairlady Cde Dorothy Mabika.
Toriro Clinic serves several villages in Makoni West, where access to maternal health services has been a long-standing challenge.
The new waiting mothers’ shelter will allow expectant mothers from distant areas to stay at the clinic ahead of delivery, reducing risks linked to late arrivals and home births.
Dr Muswere said reliable power and internet at the clinic would improve patient record management and enable faster communication with district hospitals.
He added that Government would continue prioritising rural health infrastructure to close the urban-rural service gap.
The upgrades at Toriro Clinic form part of a national programme to equip rural facilities with solar power, water and digital systems under the Second Republic’s health sector reforms.
