The government has commended Fastjet for earning the prestigious International Air Transport Association’s (IATA) Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) registration.
Speaking during the IOSA registration ceremony held early on Thursday morning at Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development, Engineer Joy Makumbe, said: “This registration acknowledges Fastjet’s commitment to conformity and adherence to the highest operational and safety standards in the aviation industry.
“It is indeed quite gratifying to note that, in keeping with our mission to provide quality aviation infrastructure and services, Fastjet has internalised this aspiration and is ready to offer our travelling public an unparalleled travel experience,” she said.
Fastjet board chair, Advocate Farai Mutamangira, said the IOSA registration was part of the airline’s efforts to market Zimbabwe as a safe destination.
“We have been working flat-out behind the scenes to ensure that Fastjet achieves this registration and puts Zimbabwe on the map as a safe destination to visit,” he said.
“This IOSA registration demonstrates that flight safety is our top priority in everything that we do at Fastjet.
“As we start the festive peak travel season, we welcome passengers onboard Fastjet flights under the world-class safety and security standards resulting from our IOSA registration.”
Administered by IATA, the IOSA programme was created in 2003 to assess the operational management and control systems of airlines.
The IOSA certification is recognised worldwide as the highest benchmark for airline operational safety.
The assessment encompassed a comprehensive evaluation of Fastjet’s management systems and operational procedures across key areas, including flight operations, maintenance, engineering, and ground operations.
The certificate is valid for two years.
