THE withdrawal of services by Warriors coach Callisto Pasuwa ahead of the senior national team’s trip to Comoros last week was not a protest against the Government but directed at ZIFA leadership that has abused funds and perennially failed to administer football in the country, Parliament heard yesterday.

Sports, Arts and Culture Deputy Minister Thabeth Kanengoni-Malinga said ZIFA had abused several funds under its custody and Government through the Sport and Recreation commision had instituted a probe against the association to establish how it had been running football in the country. Kanengoni-Malinga was responding to a question in the National Assembly from Buhera South MP Joseph Chinotimba on what Government was doing to assist the national team, which he said was failing to get money to fulfil fixtures and embarrassing the country. Chinotimba also asked what Government policy was in assisting national teams. The Buhera South MP said the country’s football national team was being left to the benevolence of well-wishers and handling of national teams were done in a manner that embarrassed the country. Mabvuku-Tafara MP James Maridadi also asked whether Sports, Arts and Culture Minister Andrew Langa had misled Pasuwa that he would be paid after the African Cup of Nations assignment against Malawi in Blantyre.
