The Presidential Community Fisheries Programme has donated over 2 200 fingerlings to vulnerable young women, aiming to empower them economically.

Speaking during the event in Goromonzi on Friday, the director of Fisheries and Aquaculture Resources Department (FARD) in the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development, Mr Milton Makumbe, said they were ready to share ideas with the Pamodzi Fisheries and Fresh Produce at their training centre.

“Today we come here, to donate 2 200 fingerlings to a group of women in Arcturus. It is a group of vulnerable women who had problems with their lives in a mining area.

“We see this as a chance to empower women after they had been given a donations including fish pond, fencing, water and a garden.

“We look forward to share ideas with these young women at the Henderson Research Institute in Mazowe for two or more days”, said Mr Makumbe.

Flora Makuwe, a member of the Pamodzi Fisheries, said the project will help them to upgrade their livelihoods.

“We faced many problems in this area while others became mothers at a tender age. This project will help us upgrade our lives and feed our families”, she said.
