Government fires nine errant councillors

Two boards of inquiry instituted for Harare and Rusape separately presented reports to Local Government, Rural and Urban Development Minister Ignatius Chombo with recommendations to fire the nine.

The dismissed Harare councillors are Sulas Machetu, Paul Gorekore, Maxwell Katsande and Johnson Zaranyika.

Three others — Herbert Gomba, Peter Marange and Job Mbadzi — survived the chop, with Clr Marange receiving a final warning.

The five who were dismissed from Rusape are Love-more Chifomboti, Clr Chipere, Kidwell Gomana, Zephania Mberikunashe and Blessmore Pumbureni.

Minister Chombo acceded to the committees’ recomme-ndations.

Letters of dismissal were expected to be delivered yes-terday while those absolving Clrs Gomba, Marange and Mbadzi were also dispatched.
