Government issues travel advisory ahead of Independence celebrations in Maphisa

THE Government has released a comprehensive travel advisory ahead of the 46th National Independence Celebrations set for Maphisa in Matabeleland South on Saturday.

The advisory outlines designated routes, traffic management measures and strict security guidelines for motorists and the travelling public.

It targets motorists and public transport operators travelling from various provinces across the country.
To ease congestion and ensure smooth traffic flow, travellers have been directed to use the Zvishavane–Mbalabala–Gwanda–Maphisa route, which officials say is approximately 65 kilometres shorter and less congested compared to alternative roads.

Clear traffic flow arrangements, depending on whether motorists possess invitation cards granting access to the main venue, have also been put in place.

“Motorists without invitation cards, including buses, lorries and kombis, will be required to use Sun Yat Sen Road upon arrival in Maphisa. The same applies to private vehicles and Government vehicles without accreditation,” reads the notice.

Those with invitation cards, including Government officials, will access the venue via St Joseph Road, which has been reserved to facilitate controlled entry and minimise disruptions during the national event.

Security measures have been heightened, with checkpoints set to be established along key routes to assist travellers and enforce compliance with the regulations. Authorities have urged all invited guests to carry their invitation cards at all times.

Members of the public have also been urged against wearing party regalia or all-black clothing, bringing vehicles without number plates, or carrying sharp objects, alcohol, drugs and other restricted items such as stationery materials and make-up kits.

Officials have called on the public to cooperate with law enforcement agencies, follow designated routes and adhere to all guidelines to ensure a safe and successful commemorative event.
