THE Government has commended the Food and Nutrition Council for adhering to good corporate governance practices.

Speaking at the council’s Annual General Meeting in Harare today, the Permanent Secretary in the Office of Vice President Dr Constantino Chiwenga, Mrs Marcia Tendai Nyanda, who was represented by Mr Kennel Bebe, acknowledged the board of directors’ strategic oversight.

“The Government appreciations the continued strategic oversight by the board of directors to enable the Food and Nutrition Council to remain aligned to its role of coordinator and conveyor of food and nutrition issues in Zimbabwe,” she said.

Mrs Nyanda highlighted the council’s crucial role in providing useful information that enables Government to implement life-saving strategies.

She said council’s information was being used as a reference point in responding to the El Nino-induced drought.

“You will recall that last year, information provided by the Food and Nutrition Council was used as a reference point which assisted the Government in the direction of disaster following the El Nino-induced drought,” she said.

Mrs Nyanda urged FNC to continue undertaking research and providing timely, credible, and scientific information to stakeholders.

She also praised the council’s consultative multi-stakeholder approach.

“This consultative approach has given you the leeway to broaden the scope of your work beyond the country’s borders,” Mrs Nyanda said.

She thanked stakeholders for their continued support and urged them to rally behind the council to ensure the success of its plans.

“Let us all work together to assess and document the needs of our stakeholders”.
