A SUSPECTED cholera case has been reported in Chiredzi, prompting the Ministry of Health and Child Care to be on high alert.

Masvingo provincial medical director Dr Amadeous Shamu this afternoon disclosed that his ministry was closely monitoring the situation.
He could not be drawn into disclosing where the patient suspected to be suffering from the deadly disease was hospitalised.

Dr Shamu revealed that his ministry was awaiting further results to establish if indeed the patient was suffering from cholera.
“We have one case of suspected cholera that has been reported in Chiredzi and the patient in question has been hospitalised, we are closely monitoring the situation,” he said.

“Further tests have been conducted, and we await results to confirm if indeed it is cholera as per the preliminary indications.”
According to Dr Shamu, if the cholera case is confirmed, it means an outbreak of the disease will be declared in Chiredzi district.
