THE Ministry of Skills Audit and Development has received a donation of 20 laptops from the Ministry of Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services, providing a significant boost to their operations.

The handover ceremony, facilitated by Potraz, took place in Harare on Monday morning.

Expressing gratitude for the donation, the Minister of Skills Audit and Development Professor Paul Mavima said the timeliness of the contribution will help the Ministry fulfill its mandate.

“We are thankful for the shot-in-the-arm donation as it will help us as a Ministry to achieve our mandate, which includes establishing the skills needed to meet Vision 2030 and Africa’s Agenda 2060. Once we establish the present skills, we will rely on big data for analysis and storage, and computers are essential. With a staff of over 200 people, as we decentralize to provinces, we need more computers,” said Minister Mavima.

Deputy Minister of ICT, Dingumuzi Phuti, speaking on behalf of ICT Minister Dr Tatenda Mavetera, hailed the collaborative efforts between the two ministries in achieving their respective goals and serving the citizens.

“I am elated to be part of this event because when I heard about this Ministry and the reassignment of Professor Mavima by President Mnangagwa, I knew it was important. These kinds of assignments are not given lightly. As the name of the Ministry suggests, it aligns with the work of our Ministry, and we have a role to play in ensuring the relevance and effectiveness of the Skills Audit Ministry. This donation may be a drop in the ocean, but it symbolises our commitment to charting a way forward,” Deputy Minister Phuti said.

In closing the handover ceremony, Minister Mavetera emphasized the need for digitising Zimbabwe and expressed gratitude to Potraz for their support.

“We need to digitise Zimbabwe, and that is why we have decided to make this handover. We extend our thanks to Potraz for their support in providing this donation,” said Minister Mavetera.

The event was attended by Dr Beulah Chirume, Permanent Secretary of the ICT Ministry, Ambassador Rudo Chitiga, Permanent Secretary of the Skills Audit and Development Ministry, Potraz representatives led by Mr Dewera, and senior Government officials.
