THE Government has taken a major step towards strengthening the country’s social protection systems with the validation of the Zimbabwe Social Registry (ZISO) Operational Manual in Gweru on Thursday.
The initiative, being spearheaded by various Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) in partnership with the World Bank, UNICEF and the World Food Programme (WFP), is expected to improve the targeting, coordination and monitoring of social programmes across the country.

ZISO is expected to become a central tool in identifying and supporting vulnerable populations in line with the Government’s commitment to inclusive development and leaving no one behind.
Speaking during the validation workshop, the Chief Director for Social Development and Labour Administration, Mr Tawanda Zimhunga, said it was important to ensure the operational manual was both technically sound and practical.
“We should ensure that the final operational manual is not only technically sound but also practical, implementable and reflective of our shared vision for social development in the country,” said Mr Zimhunga.

The validation process has brought together key stakeholders to refine the operational guidelines and ensure they align with national priorities while addressing the changing needs of communities.
Once finalised, the ZISO Operational Manual is expected to guide the rollout of a comprehensive and integrated social registry system, improving the efficiency and effectiveness of social protection service delivery nationwide.
