OUTGOING Bulawayo Governor, Ambassador Cain Mathema has urged the business community in the city to work together in reviving its industry. Ambassador Mathema made the remarks at Nkulumane Shopping Mall on Saturday where he was the guest of honour at the Bellevue Spar winter promotion draw.
He said now that the elections had come and gone, it was time for the business community to work together in reviving Bulawayo’s collapsed industry.
“This is the kind of spirit we want where people get together for a good cause. Now that elections are over, it is time that we look into the future and drive our economy forward. You have my support to ensure that the city is restored to its former state,” he said.
Thousands of people from Bulawayo and surroundings areas thronged Nkulumane Shopping Mall for the draw.
The grand prizes of seven cars were won by Mr Walter Makhurane, a teacher at Lochview Primary School, Ms Nelly Chisale a vegetable vendor from Old Pumula, Ms Patricia Masindi also a vendor, Ms Noma Ndlovu another hawker, Mr Thulani Magagula, a Bulawayo City Council parks officer, Mr Lambart Murebwa a Lobels general worker and Mr Misheck Ndlovu, a farmer.
Ms Chisale said she was excited to win the car.
“I am very excited to win a car. I did not expect to win the car even after putting many entry forms. I am yet to decide on what I will do with it,” said the overjoyed Ms Chisale.
There were also consolation prizes in the promotion which saw some people riding away on new bicycles, others winning fridges, gas stoves and power generators.
