This year the festival runs under the theme “Talent Identification and Development: Taking Arts to the People” and ends tomorrow.
In an interview yesterday, the director of the Rainbow Province Arts Festival Nokuthula Moyo said all was in place for today’s official opening.
“Our Governor will officially open the festival. She will tour the stands with exhibits from the artists.
“We have also invited Government officials, members of the business community and farmers, among other people,” he said.
Writers, bookshops, arts associations and publishers will exhibit novels and textbooks written in local languages such as Ndebele, Sotho, Venda, Kalanga and Shangani.
Moyo said splendid performances were expected from several artists who had already arrived by yesterday morning.
Among the groups to perform will be the famous provincial winners of the Chibuku Road to Fame competitions, Tangapasi Traditional.
Dancers such as Bolamba, Inqama Yophondo, and Yebo Yes, and poets such as Nqindi and Bolsheviks will also perform.
Other groups to entertain the audience will be Red Dox group, GDA digital music group as well as schoolchildren.
Tomorrow more artists are billed to perform and among them will be Insiza Express band.
“The festival will end on a high note with performances from one of the best local music artistes, Chase Skuza, who will perform alongside Tangapasi,” he said.
Yesterday the festival was dedicated to an arts development workshop and theatre performances. Among the facilitators of the workshop was Raisedon Baya.
The festival seeks to promote the arts industry in Matabeleland South Province.
