Govt allocates farm to the disabled

PEOPLE living with disabilities in Gweru have been allocated a farm which they can develop to improve their livelihood. Addressing a workshop for youths living with disabilities and traditional leaders in Gweru last Friday, Gweru assistant District Administrator Mr Tarisai Mudadigwa said the 500-hectare farm should be used to develop and change the livelihood of the people living with disabilities.

He said Government was committed to improving the livelihood of its people.
“As part of the Government’s inclusive programmes to change lives, the people living with disabilities in Gweru have been allocated a farm. Land redistribution is one of the economic empowerment programmes that are being undertaken by the Government to improve the lives of the people. So the 500 hectares farm should go a long way in assisting people living with disabilities,” he said.

Mr Mudadigwa said once they settle, Government was going to give them farming inputs. Chairperson of the youths living with disabilities Miss Nyasha Mahwende said there were 103 registered people living with disabilities in their database. She said they had decided to unite all forms of disabilities so that they have a united front.

“We are grateful to the Government for this gesture and we are going to work on the land so that we do away with the dependence syndrome,” she said.
