President Mnangagwa has been commended for prioritising infrastructure development and devolution, a move that has seen critical services being brought closer to the people.
Government, through its devolution agenda, is working around the clock to accelerate infrastructure development across Zimbabwe, with schools, clinics and roads under construction.
This week, Murehwa Rural District Council (RDC) commissioned a block of two classrooms for Chiguri Masunzwe Secondary School in Ward 21.
The construction of this school was funded through devolution.
The local authority also commissioned a clinic in Ward 17, reducing the distance walked by the community to access health services.
Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Mashonaland East Advocate Itayi Ndudzo officiated during the commissioning of both facilities.
“This project is a result of the sterling efforts of the Government of Zimbabwe under the astute leadership of President Mnangagwa. It was also made possible by the Ward 21 community, its local authority, the Murehwa Rural District Council, as well as key ministries, departments and agencies, such as the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works and the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education.
“This project is a testament to the significant contribution and impact of the devolution thrust spearheaded by the Second Republic on the rural development sphere. The Chiguri Masunzwe Secondary School classroom block and ablution facilities were among the pioneer projects implemented under the Devolution programme in 2019.
“The level of collaboration between the community, the Council, and key Government ministries, departments and agencies was outstanding. The community mobilised locally available resources, such as bricks, river sand, pit sand and labour, whilst the council provided the required building materials and technical expertise, supported by key Government ministries,” he said.
Commissioning Wuyu Wuyu clinic, Advocate Ndudzo said unity of purpose is the foundation for development.
“This clinic stands as a powerful testament to what we can achieve when we work together with a shared vision. For too long, the journey to seek basic medical care was a challenge for many here. It was a journey measured in long kilometres, precious time lost, and often, anxiety. But from today, that narrative changes. The Wuyu Wuyu Clinic is a beacon of progress, signifying that quality healthcare is no longer a distant hope, but a right accessible right here at your doorstep.
“This achievement would not have been possible without visionary leadership and unwavering support. We extend our deepest gratitude to the Government of the Republic of Zimbabwe, under the exemplary leadership of President Mnangagwa. His government’s commitment to transforming the nation’s health infrastructure and prioritising the well-being of every citizen is the wind that filled the sails of this project.
“This clinic represents far more than just bricks and mortar. It is a sanctuary of healing and hope. It is a place where a mother can bring her child for immunisation without a day-long journey. It is a place where our elders can receive routine check-ups and chronic care with dignity and ease. It is a place where urgent medical attention will be available, potentially saving lives. It is a cornerstone for a better quality of life, for economic productivity, and for a future where no one is left behind due to a lack of access to care.”
He went on to say it is important to note that the implementation of rural development projects gained speed and momentum under the Second Republic, which prioritised projects that have an impact on the livelihoods of the people.
From 2018, there was a boom in developmental programmes and activities across Murehwa District and the entire province of Mashonaland East.
Council chairman for Murehwa RDC, Alderman Amos Gutu thanked the Government for devolution funds.
