GOVERNMENT has commended organisers of the two-day Good Deeds Day conference for aligning its activities with national priorities and working hand-in-glove with various stakeholders to reach the underserved and uplift communities.

Good Deeds Day is a global movement that celebrates the power of doing good, and it encourages individuals, organisations, and communities to engage in acts of kindness and service, fostering positive change worldwide.

Themed “Advancing community resilience through doing good,” the conference aims to expand networks, foster strategic partnerships, and address challenges in community service.

Speaking at the Indaba in the capital today, Harare Metropolitan Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister Senator Charles Tavengwa said the Government’s National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1) had laid the groundwork for development, youth empowerment and citizen participation.

“Good Deeds Day and its guiding values volunteerism, civic engagement, and doing good for others and the environment, are not separate from this agenda.

“Rather, they are part and parcel of it. The goals of NDS1 and Vision 2030 are best realised when every citizen understands that they have a role to play.

“We must therefore applaud Good Deeds Day Zimbabwe for aligning its activities with national priorities, working hand in hand with Government and civil society to reach the underserved and uplift communities,” he said.

Over 210 delegates, including Government representatives, members of the diplomatic corps, corporate leaders, NGOs, associations, and individuals, are attending the event.

“We are excited to host this important event in Zimbabwe, bringing together leaders and volunteers to discuss ways to make a meaningful impact in our communities,” said Dr Lucia Nkomo, the Good Deeds Day Zimbabwe Country Director.

The conference will feature discussions on key topics such as volunteer engagement, social inclusion, youth empowerment, and partnerships with Government and corporate entities.

Delegates will have the opportunity to network with like-minded individuals, share best practices, and learn from experts in the field.
