Govt assures visitors of a peaceful environment

The Government has assured all visitors of an ever-peaceful and secure environment whenever they decide to visit the country.
Zimbabwe recently successfully hosted both the SADC Industrialisation Week and the 44th Summit of SADC Heads of State and Government.

This morning Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Minister Kazembe Kazembe briefed the media after the review of security arrangements around the hosting of the 44th SADC Summit.

“I am delighted to deliver this press statement just a few days after the successful hosting of an incident-free SADC Summit. Let me start by congratulating His Excellency the President, Cde Dr Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa on his assumption of the chairmanship of SADC,” he said.

“On behalf of the Security Cluster, allow me to extend profound gratitude to all Zimbabweans for conducting themselves peacefully and orderly during the period preceding the hosting of the summit and on the actual hosting days. This is despite, sustained efforts to cause chaos through illegal and unjustifiable protests and riots.”

He said the Security Sector was proud to be associated with a citizenry that chose to do the right thing instead of doing things to disrupt the peaceful environment in the country.

“The general public’s disregard for calls to engage in acts of insurrection should never go unnoticed and solemnly acknowledged,” he said.

“Fellow citizens, the peaceful and tranquil environment that characterised the entire period of the hosting of the summit was a collective venture.

“All of us contributed to peace by choosing to abide by the constitution and acting within the precincts of the law. The incident-free hosting of the summit has earned our country enormous economic, political and social dividends.

“We remain grateful for the warm and friendly welcome you extended to the visiting delegates, and the love you shared with them. Zimbabweans are known for their hospitality and peacefulness. The Security Sector assures all visitors to Zimbabwe of an ever-peaceful and secure environment whenever they decide to visit the country.”
