YOUTH Empowerment, Development and Vocational Training Deputy Minister Kudakwashe Mupamhanga says the Government is very deliberate in what it sets out to do in terms of youth inclusion.
Speaking at the launch of the United for Youth Inclusion programme and Youth Connekt Africa Summit Sensitisation in Harare today, Deputy Minister Mupamhanga said President Mnangagwa created the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Development and Vocational Training to look at youths together with the Ministry of Sport, Arts and Culture.
He said the ministry is no longer doing talk shows.
“I’m happy that our resident coordinator (Mr Edward Kallon) spoke of the youth empowerment strategy,” he said.
“We are no longer looking to do talk shows when nothing is happening on the ground. So what we have is a youth empowerment strategy, so we are talking to our sister ministries, departments and agencies so that everybody is moving towards youth empowerment.
“With the youth empowerment strategy, which will be launched by His Excellency in October, everybody will be mandated to provide statistics on how many youths they are reaching out to, empowering and enrolling on their systems.
“It is a deliberate action that we need when we’re doing youth work,” said Dep Min Mupamhanga.
He said President Mnangagwa has also made sure that people living with disability are included in the deliberate action.
“I will be happy when we get to a stage where, as we plan as a ministry, we sit down and have a strategic retreat to discuss a way forward for the coming financial year since budget consultations are ongoing,” said Dep Min Mupamhanga.
“We also need to be inclusive in our systems so that when we are planning, we’re planning with developmental partners like the UN, we’re planning with the private sector so that we’re all walking on the same path.
