Government yesterday called for an immediate end to the illegal occupation of Palestinian land by Israel. Minister of Policy Co-ordination and Promotion of Socio-Economic Ventures in the President’s Office, Cde Simon Khaya Moyo, said this in a solidarity message to Palestine on their 68th anniversary of the Alnakba Day celebrated on May 15 annually.
“To this end, we reiterate our call for an immediate end to the Israeli occupation and to the creation of new settlements by Israel on Palestinian land.
“The wanton killing of Palestinians, including innocent women, children and journalists by Israeli soldiers should also be stopped forthwith.
“The Government and people of Zimbabwe join Palestine in commemorating the 68th anniversary of the catastrophe day of the Palestinian people, Alnakba Day.
“On this day we recall with heavy hearts the destruction and displacement of property and people to pave way for invading entities,” said Minister Khaya Moyo.
He said it was disheartening that the world watched as the Palestinians became refuges the world over. An estimated 700 000 Palestinians have fled human slaughter in their country perpetrated by Israeli troops.
Minister Moyo said it was disturbing that Palestinians continued to be displaced, dispossessed and forcibly dispelled with no solution at hand.
“Sadly, the world has yet to achieve unanimity in condemning activities preventing Palestinians from attaining self-determination and claiming their motherland,” he said.
Minister Moyo said Zimbabwe was hopeful that the solidarity being displayed by the majority of United Nations member states in condemning the continued occupation of Palestinian territory would bear fruit.
“Zimbabwe looks forward to celebrating the realisation of the State of Palestine based on the 1967 boarders and with East Jerusalem as its capital.
In this regard, we call for an immediate end to the Israel occupation and to the creation of new settlements by Israel on Palestinian land.
“We call for the cessation of arbitrary arrests and imprisonment of Palestinians in Israel jails.
“We call upon all members of the international community to increase pressure on the government of Israel and its allies to adopt concrete measures towards a peaceful and permanent solution to the conflict.”
