Govt deploys auditors to school

Government has deployed auditors to Chiredzi Christian College, a few weeks after a private auditor unearthed possible misuse of school funds.

Masvingo provincial education director Mr Zedious Chitiga confirmed the developments saying Government auditors started work at the school last week.

“It is now our policy that we must know how school funds are being used. Our auditors are out there at Chiredzi Christian College trying to establish how the school has been managing its affairs. We are committed at making sure that there is transparency and truthfulness in the way school funds and assets are used,” said Mr Chitiga.

Mashoko Mission Schools, which runs the college, recently hired private auditors from Commercial Management Services to audit the school.

Chairman of the Mashoko Mission Schools Mr Zebedee Togarepi said they hired auditors as they wanted to undertake a smooth handover of affairs by a new headmaster.

“We called for auditors because we had received a new headmaster and we saw it as noble since it affords a swift handover process. Auditors finished their work a few weeks ago,” he said.

Sources say funds running into thousands of dollars may not have been used properly between 2013 and 2015.
