Government has completed an audit of the civil service staff complement, with the results expected to be presented to Parliament soon. Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Minister Priscah Mupfumira told Senators yesterday that her ministry was already in the process of analysing the report.
She was responding to a question from MDC-T representative for Matabeleland South, Sithembile Mlotshwa, who sought to know what Government was doing about alleged ghost workers in the civil service.
“My ministry has just finished an audit of all Government departments and we are now in the process of analysing the report,” she said. “I will be presenting a statement on the report in due course.”
In an interview with The Herald after the House’s sitting, Minister Mupfumira said the audit had been conducted by the Public Service Commission.
She said they expected to finalise the report next week.
“After that I will present it to President Mugabe who is my principal, then to Cabinet and then Parliament,” said Minister Mupfumira.
It is expected that if indeed ghost workers existed and are uprooted, it will help reduce the wage bill.
