Govt hails Japan’s developmental thrust

Government has commended Japan for remaining resolute in implementing projects in the country without deviating into the regime change agenda. Director in the office of Masvingo Minister of State for Provincial Affairs, Mr Kudakwashe Machako, made the remarks while addressing villagers and Government officials on Wednesday during a handover of food assistance and productive asset creation project worth $1,2 million at Chipile Weir under Chief Sengwe in Bondela.

“This place reminds us of a political prison, Gonakudzingwa, where our leaders were incarcerated during the war and it was surrounded by lions and other dangerous animals,” he said.

“It also gives us a resemblance of our independence.

“We attained our political independence, but our friendship with Japan is now giving us an economic independence. The message I am delivering should have been said by the late Minister for Provincial Affairs (Cde Sarah Mahofa) who passed on some few weeks ago.

“We heard that the World Food Programme received donor funding from the Government of Japan for us to start this productive asset creation (PAC) project. It is our second year doing this project in Chiredzi.”

Mr Machako said there should be infrastructure to help utilise donated funds.

“Ambassador Iwado, you have not only helped Chiredzi, but during natural disasters, your country also assisted us with fire tenders in Masvingo when the city council was struggling,” he said.
