Government has commended the National Youth Service for playing a pivotal role in complimenting efforts to assist people affected by Cyclone Idai in Chimanimani and Chipinge.

Speaking during a tour of cyclone-hit areas in Chimanimani last Friday, Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation Deputy Minister Cde Yeukai Simbanegavi said the youths had been very helpful in the rescue efforts and food distribution.  “The National Youth Service team has been on the ground from day one,” she said.

“They have been and are still working with soldiers and various Government departments in distributing food and all other work including establishing temporary roads and repairing those that were damaged.

“This shows that our youths have discipline and a sense of patriotism.”

Cde Simbanegavi said youth officers had been helping to erect tents to be used by the homeless who are housed at various camps, as well as feeding them. She applauded the youths and encouraged them to continue providing the support required in all projects that are lined up for Chimanimani by Government which includes rebuilding of houses and road construction.
