The Government is launching a new wave of high-impact projects designed to improve the lives of ordinary citizens, aligning with the Vision 2030 agenda and the National Development Strategy 2.

Speaking at a Technical Validation Workshop for the Rapid Results Initiatives 100-Day Programme for 2026 in Mutare yesterday, Secretary for National Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning, Ms Fananai Madambi, outlined the initiative’s objectives.

The workshop, organised by the Office of the President and Cabinet, featured participation from various stakeholders, including Government ministries and agencies such as the Public Service Commission, the Procurement Authority of Zimbabwe, the Rural Infrastructure Development Agency (RIDA), and the Mutapa Investment Fund (MIF).

Ms Madambi reiterated the importance of the previous 100-day programme, which focused on critical areas such as education, health, food security, infrastructure, and electricity generation. These sectors saw notable success, laying a strong foundation for upcoming initiatives.

“The President challenges Government machinery to demonstrate that, within every 100 days, accelerated progress is possible and Vision 2030 is not aspirational rhetoric, but a liveable and visible reality for the citizenry,” she said.

Ms Madambi listed strategic national infrastructure projects undertaken, including the Trabablas Interchange, the expansion of Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport, and the commissioning of Hwange Units 7 and 8, which added 600MW to the national grid.

In addition, the rollout of new base stations has expanded ICT connectivity across the country. New health centres, hospitals, and health posts, particularly in Mutasa District, illustrate a commitment to improving health delivery. Magistrates’ courts constructed across provinces enhance access to justice and strengthen governance. Efforts to boost food security include the establishment of new irrigation schemes and dam construction.

“These achievements are not abstract; they are proof that lives are being uplifted, communities are being strengthened, and trust in Government continues to grow,” Ms Madambi said.

She stressed the need to maintain momentum as the country enters a crucial phase of its Vision 2030 journey.

However, Ms Madambi also warned that some areas require improvement. She cautioned ministries, departments, and agencies against complacency in project implementation.

“These include submission of low-quality and low-impact projects lacking transformative potential, limited or delayed resource mobilisation, procurement bottlenecks, and compliance challenges.

There is also weak coordination between central and sub-national tiers of Government, and prioritisation of routine, low-risk projects merely to secure favourable performance ratings,” she said.

On the sidelines of the workshop, Secretary for Manicaland Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Mr Abiot Maronge, highlighted the province’s focus on water bodies such as Marovanyati in Buhera, Muchekeranwa in Makoni, and Osborne in Mutasa/Makoni, for irrigation development.

“It is anticipated that a number of projects will be taken on board under the Rapid Results Initiative,” noted Mr Maronge.

“In Manicaland, our focus will be on irrigation development, which requires expansion. We are going to ensure that the dams are utilised.” He underscored the importance of enhancing the province’s value addition capacity. “We have a lot of raw materials such as sugar cane, cotton, and horticultural products, and we are working with the private sector to develop industrial capacity to add value to these products,” said Mr Maronge.

These projects will be coordinated by the Minister of State for Manicaland Provincial Affairs and Devolution’s office to monitor progress effectively, ensuring community involvement in line with President Mnangagwa’s mantra of leaving no place and no one behind.

This approach is expected to bolster the implementation of devolution and the decentralisation of development.
