GOVERNMENT yesterday said people who have received three doses of World Health Organisation (WHO) recommended Covid-19 vaccines were now exempted from the mandatory wearing of face masks in public.
In a post-Cabinet briefing yesterday, Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Senator Monica Mutsvangwa said the Government arrived at the decision after a notable decrease in Covid-19 cases.
Sen Mutsvangwa, however, said the wearing of face masks was still required at indoor venues and in public transport.
“Noting the decrease in Covid-19 cases, Cabinet resolved as follows:
“That those who have received three doses of the WHO-recommended vaccines are exempted from mandatory wearing of face masks in outdoor public places, but should, however, wear masks in indoor public places and on public transport,” said Sen Mutsvangwa.
She said people should carry their vaccination cards for verification.
“Those fully vaccinated should carry their cards all the time.
“All provinces (must) continue intensifying Covid-19 vaccination activities for the nation to achieve herd immunity,” she said.
As of August 15, Zimbabwe had 256 561 confirmed cases, including 250 733 recoveries and 5 588 deaths.
To date, over 6 390 545 people have been vaccinated against Covid-19.
