Govt mourns Mubwandarikwa

GOVERNMENT has described the death of senior medical consultant Dr Kumbirai Mubwandarikwa as a great loss, not only to the medical fraternity, but the nation at large.

Dr Mubwandarikwa succumbed to cancer at his Borrowdale home on Sunday.

He was 78.

He will be laid to rest at his farm in Chivhu today.

Addressing mourners at Dr Mubwandarikwa’s funeral service at the Reformed Church in Zimbabwe in Mbare yesterday, Health and Child Care Minister Dr Obadiah Moyo said the physician made enormous contribution to the medical fraternity.

“The medical fraternity and indeed Zimbabwe at large have lost an illustrious renowned doctor who made a big contribution to the medical fraternity in our country.

“He was in the medical field for quite a long time and provided services to millions of people, it’s a loss to all of us.

“Dr Mubwandarikwa was one of the medical doctors who attended to the late former First Lady Sally Mugabe and was instrumental in the setting up of kidney dialysis services in the country,” he said.

Dr Mubwandarikwa is survived by his wife Reverend Ndakarwira Magodora and four children; Stella, Tariro, Joram and Steven.
