measure to help them while more assistance is being sought from the Civil Protection Unit.
The Red Cross also handed over tents for temporary shelter. The families also received cooking utensils.
Acting Masvingo provincial administrator Mr Gorden Chipika yesterday said they were waiting for more assistance for the families from the Civil Protection Unit.
Mr Chipika yesterday led a team of senior Government officials in Masvingo to assess the damage in Mandyangove.
He said they were waiting for more assistance to come in the next few days.
“So far we have managed to give each of the 35 affected families US$100 each as a temporary assistance while Red Cross has provided them with tents, blankets and cooking utensils which we hope will ease their plight in the interim.
“We expect some more help from the Civil Protection Unit after we presented a report detailing the magnitude of required assistance by the affected families and we hope to start getting the assistance in the next few days,” said Mr Chipika.
Mr Chipika said Government would continue engaging other developmental partners to find ways of assisting the affected families. The storms have also destroyed schools and crops.
