“Treasury has not yet released funds for the road. We have been told the funds will be released soon,” he said.
Motorists have expressed fear that the stoppage could result in a long delay in completing the busy highway which doubles as a gateway to the Eastern Highlands and Mozambique.
Minister Goche said the funds were released in phases depending on the work to be carried out. He said Government had initially wanted to carry out the dualisation up to Marondera but realised that the project could not be funded through Treasury.
“We have been using our own resources to do the road. We are now looking for funding partners,” he said.
Government has embarked on a programme to dualise the country’s major roads in an attempt to improve traffic flows, reduce accidents and re-construct old roads.
