Govt to announce indigenisation specifications

of a business venture except at the discretion of the minister.
Speaking at the Imara Edwards Securities conference last week, Youth Development, Indigenisation and Empowerment Minister Saviour Kasukuwere said a number of key sectors of the economy were complying with the indigenisation laws.
“We are now working with other sectors to comply with indigenisation laws and specific indigenisation framework for other sectors will be published soon.”
“Let us dialogue and not confront each other over the matter. Let us have dialogue, let us find each other. Companies should not run away from us,” he said.
Minister Kasukuwere said investors should not mistake indigenisation and nationalisation since shares were not being taken for free.
“Indigenisation is not nationalisation. We want partnerships between foreigners and locals. I want to assure investors that their investment will be safe,” he said.
The indigenisation and economic empowerment programme has started yielding results with some multinationals launching community and employee share ownership trusts.
Meanwhile the Government plans to transform the programme to include areas such as wildlife and forestry, which a minority still dominates.Indigenisation of the wildlife sector is expected to take the form of the Communal Areas Management Program for Indigenous Resources (Campfire) concept. — New Ziana.
